چکیده

Existing economic models support the estimation of the costs and benefits of developing and evolving a Software Product Line (SPL) as compared to undertaking traditional software development approaches. In addition, Feature Diagrams (FDs) are a valuable tool to scope the domain of a SPL. This paper proposes an algorithm to calculate, from a FD, the following information for economic models: the total number of products of a SPL, the SPL homogeneity and the commonality of the SPL requirements. The algorithm running time belongs to the complexity class O(f2). In contrast to related work, the algorithm is free of dependencies on off-the-self tools and is generally specified for an abstract FD notation, that works as a pivot language for most of the available notations for feature modeling.

A literature Review on Feature Diagram Product Counting and its Usage in Software Product Line Economic Models

In software product line engineering, feature diagrams are a popular means to represent the similarities and differences within a family of related systems. In addition, feature diagrams implicitly model valuable information that can be used in economic models to estimate the cost savings of a product line. In particular, this paper reviews existing proposals on computing the total number of pr...

Modelling Imperfect Product Line Requirements with Fuzzy Feature Diagrams

In this article, we identify that partial, vague and conflicting information can severely limit the effectiveness of approaches that derive feature trees from textual requirement specifications. We examine the impact such imperfect information has on feature tree extraction and we propose the use of fuzzy feature diagrams to address the problem more effectively. This approach is then discussed ...

A UML pro le for feature diagrams: Initiating a model driven engineering approach for software product lines

This paper proposes an instrumented approach to integrate feature diagrams with UML models, via UML pro les and a Rational Software Architect plugin. The concrete contribution is the detail of a new UML pro le based upon a meta-model synthesising existing feature diagrams semantics, and a Rational Software Architect (RSA) implementation. Our RSA implementation makes possible to link feature dia...

Automatic Tool Support for Cardinality-Based Feature Modeling with Model Constraints for Information Systems Development

Feature Modeling is a technique that uses diagrams to characterize the variability of software product lines. The arrival of metamodeling frameworks in the Model-Driven Engineering field (MDE) has provided the necessary background to exploit these diagrams (called feature models) in information systems development processes. However, these frameworks have some limitations when they must deal wi...

Measuring Complexity of Domain Models Represented by Feature Diagrams

Feature models represented by Feature Diagrams (FDs) prevail in the software product line approach. The product line approach and FDs are used to manage variability and complexity of software families and to ensure higher quality and productivity of product development through higher-level feature modeling and reuse. In this paper we, first, analyze the properties of feature models. Then, combi...
